I come from a farming background in Rural South Yorkshire and have been around country sports all my life. I was fortunate to continue with this through a full military career as a commissioned officer in the RAF.
Stalking came later to me – around 30 years and very quickly became my passion and eventually my business. I am all about self-sufficiency and with my wife Anne we launched South Ayrshire Stalking in 2006.
We provide a full range of stalking catering for the complete novice though to training and witnessing for DSC 2. I am an assessor with the British Deer Society and one of the senior measures with the BDS/BASC/Sporting rifle trophy team. We offer lovely B&B accommodation with the emphasis on home cooked food, we eat what we shoot and grow, I also keep Bees.
I write a regular column for Sporting Rifle and can regularly be seen on The Shooting Show. I am particularly keen to promote sustainable deer management and I’m a great advocate of training and education, I do not feel we should shy away from explaining and promoting what we do as stalkers or shooters, we are actually the guardians of the countryside – and its many traditions.
